prabir ghose | | Mamata Banerjee has created a name for herself as a champion of the downtrodden – she launched a Singur bachao andolan. The result was that Ratan Tata left his plans of manufacturing the NANO in West Bengal and moved away to Gujarat. The country will get the one-lakh-rupee-worth four wheeler but West Bengal had lost a chance to improve its lot. Industry somehow does not have any good relationship with West Bengal - once again the truth surfaces that Bengalis love poetry, rasogollas and an easy lifestyle.
Mamata Banerjee has now launched another bachao andolan – the Dunlop bachao andolan. The Dumlops were a premier tyre manufacturing company – Dunlop and Good Year. Today there are several others but the old-timers have gone into oblivion. The closure of Dunlop has hit the aviation industry hard and everyone wants it to reopen. But given the general feeling of Bengalis towards industries in the state, it is doubtful whether the present owners would like to continue work there. Labor unrest and frequent agitations are not good for industries.
Wonder if anyone would come up with a Mamata bachao andolan.

a small correction.
It should be 'Mamatase Bachao' andolan and 'NOT Mamata Bachao' as it may mean 'Save Mamata' we need ' Save from Mamata'.
Also I feel Bengalis themselves have tremendous knowledge base in general, and considering the population density in and around kolkata these two strenghths can be converted to advantage very quickly to achieve the right cause.Private Reply to Savita Govilkar |

prabir ghose | | the latest misadventure of miss mamata banerjee is the spontaneous partial bandh in the high court area that inconvenienced the office goers at pack up time - all because a taxi driver was naughty and parked his taxi in a 'no parking' zone ... the police admonished him and the news that mamata received made her see red ... she rushed to the spot and wanted immediate removal of the policeman, an unconditional apology, reimbursement of the losses to the taxi driver etecetera... the taxi driver looked quite hale and hearty on the TV channel .. ...
let us do something to bachao mamata from public wrath .. one of these days someone is bound to lose his (or her) cool and do something drastic ...

Kanchan Sen | | the most unfortunate thing is no one is ready to think for the state.... I was amazed to see the state govt saving its skin stating its court order while making no arrangements for infrastructure and offcourse the destructive opposition. So for us the unfortunate truth is that a third front is so very important but there is no signs of it anywhere though so the plight of this state I think will remain the same for quite sometime now... sorry for not being optimistic...
