Curious of Micro loans to poor entreprenuers in Kolkata or India

Can a poor entreprenuer in Kolkata or other parts of India get into some type of business to start with Rs. 5,000 or less? I am not talking of Indian government managing such programs, but, from the non-profit establishments who monitor the progress of these entreprenuers to earn their living. Mostly philanthropists, donors and community developers get into that type of programs. Maybe even small investors to help those that want to help themselves.

Are there such programs in India? Micro lending surely will uplift many people into normal lives.
